Nordic  Bowl redevelopment

The Nordic Bowl is located 1.2km south east of Falls Creek Village and is accessed by vehicle via Bogong High Plains Rd or by foot, bike and skis along the Aqueduct Trail. The Nordic Bowl is a relatively flat grassed area nestled between the 180 degree arcing of the Aqueduct Trail and its associated embankments. The area was created from cut and fill soil resulting in an amphitheatre like formation.

The surrounding areas contain different types of vegetation namely sub alpine woodland, sub alpine heathland and sub alpine sedgeland. A number of walking, riding and skiing trails intersect and or cross the area creating an activity focal point. The area has a 135 degree outlook from the north east through to the south.

An existing modest storage shed / shelter is located at the western boundary of the Nordic Bowl which also serves as the ‘Race Hut’ for many cross country skiing events in winter.

The existing Windy Corner Day Shelter is a utilitarian building with run down and sub-standard amenities / facilities and is in need of repair, maintenance and upgrade.

The Proposed Building Design takes into account the Falls Creek Resort Management Design Guidelines, Universal Design Guidelines, Fall Creek Resort Management Masterplan 2016 as well as the Falls Creek Local Planning Policy and Alpine Resorts Planning Scheme.

The Falls Creek Local Planning Policy guides and establishes direction for the Falls Creek Alpine Resort. This policy should be considered in conjunction with the Falls Creek Master Plan, the Alpine Resorts Strategic Plan 2012, other components of the Alpine Resorts Planning Scheme, namely the State Planning Policy Framework, the National Construction Code of Australia (NCC) and Australian Standard 3959 - Construction in Bushfire Prone Areas.
